TENT, originally named ATGOI (need explanation of name) was founded in 2002 by six transgender women in the City of Austin, with the initial desire to expand the city ordinance to include non discrimination against the gender diverse. Sometime around ???? the organizations name was changed to TACT (Transgender Advocates of Central Texas) as the group expanded its mission and continued its efforts to educate the public and enact favorable policies and legislation in the central Texas area. In 2008, the group felt the need to expand the focus yet again to being a statewide organization, and changed its name to TENT (The Transgender Education Network of Texas) to properly reflect its new statewide focus.
